Capability
Index

SeldomSought works at the point where brand image, marketing execution, and applied software overlap. Most problems don't announce which discipline they belong to, so the practice isn't organized around one. Below: fields of practice, the reasoning that connects them, and a record of what's actually been built — service lines, independent projects, and the tools common to both.

01 / Capability Index

Twelve fields of practice

Each entry: what the field is, what's actually difficult about it, and the disciplines it draws on. Expand any row for the working detail.

001 Codename — The Herald's War Map

Marketing Strategy

Campaigns are not built from activity. They are built from leverage: audience, timing, channel, offer, and pressure.
Approach
Map the terrain before moving — who needs to hear it, why now, what friction blocks action, and which channel gives the message force.
Disciplines
Campaign architecture / local market strategy / paid & organic distribution / CRM follow-up / audience-specific messaging
Evidence
Services — Guerrilla Marketing & Strategy
002 Codename — The Name-Forge

Brand Positioning

Positioning is the act of making something impossible to confuse with the mass around it.
Approach
Sharpen the angle until the brand has a clear enemy, clear promise, clear aesthetic, and clear place in the buyer's mind.
Disciplines
Naming / landing pages / visual systems / offer design / taglines / category differentiation
Evidence
Services — Brand Image & Aesthetic Orchestration
003 Codename — The Mirror Pool

Consumer Psychology

People rarely move from logic alone. They move from identity, pressure, fear, desire, status, and timing.
Approach
Look for the gap between what people claim to want and what their behavior actually reveals.
Disciplines
Copy / funnel design / buyer objections / audience segmentation / product framing / social proof
Evidence
Project — Psychometric Battery (independent, not client work)
004 Codename — The Labyrinth Engine

Operations

Operations is the discipline of making chaos repeatable without killing the human judgment inside it.
Approach
Turn vague workflows into clear ownership, visible stages, accountable handoffs, and systems that survive pressure.
Disciplines
CRM design / SOPs / team workflows / acquisition integration / internal accountability / process cleanup
005 Codename — The Threshold Gate

Sales

Sales is not pressure. It is the controlled movement from uncertainty to decision.
Approach
Identify pain, clarify stakes, reduce perceived risk, and create enough trust for action.
Disciplines
Cold outreach / follow-up systems / referral relationships / client conversations / offer framing
006 Codename — The Mechanical Oracle

AI Systems & Automation

AI is most useful when it is not a toy, but a force multiplier inside a real workflow.
Approach
Use automation to structure intake, research, content, routing, analysis, repetitive execution, and decision support.
Disciplines
Agentic workflows / CRM cleanup / content systems / web development / research pipelines / operational automation
Evidence
Bookmark Mirror  /  Psychometric Battery  /  The Self Cartography Project — offline inference and scoring engines, no external API calls
007 Codename — The Living Facade

Web Design & Frontend Direction

A website should not look assembled. It should feel authored.
Approach
Attend to hierarchy, rhythm, readability, symbolic consistency, interaction, and the emotional atmosphere of the page.
Disciplines
Portfolio sites / client websites / landing pages / UI direction / conversion flow / visual systems
Evidence
The Self Cartography Project (React / TypeScript / Vite, hand-rolled SVG instrumentation)  /  Curated Feed
008 Codename — The Flame-Bearer

Creative Direction

Creative direction is the ability to make scattered parts obey one world.
Approach
Unify visuals, language, reference, symbolism, and user experience into one coherent aesthetic system.
Disciplines
Brand worlds / art direction / video concepts / campaign ideas / product presentation
Evidence
Curated Feed — color-sequenced archive, manually curated, no algorithm
009 Codename — The Armor of Signal

Fashion & Style Analysis

Clothing is not decoration. It is identity, proportion, material, status, tribe, and cultural fluency.
Approach
Read garments through silhouette, context, construction, reference, rarity, and social meaning.
Disciplines
Styling / brand analysis / resale instincts / product design / visual taste / fashion commentary
010 Codename — The Scriptorium

Content Strategy

Content only compounds when ideas become a system instead of random expression.
Approach
Turn loose ideas into repeatable formats, publishing rhythms, hooks, essays, videos, and authority-building narratives.
Disciplines
YouTube strategy / newsletters / social posts / essays / brand storytelling / content calendars
Evidence
Services — Copywriting & Direct Marketing
011 Codename — The Long Table

Community Building

Community is not a group chat. It is repeated belonging around shared values, rituals, and contribution.
Approach
Create environments where people have a reason to show up, participate, recognize each other, and return.
Disciplines
Coliving / local events / online groups / recruiting / moderation / culture design
012 Codename — The Open Road

Business Development

Business development is the art of turning loose possibility into structured opportunity.
Approach
Find leverage points, open conversations, build trust, identify mutual upside, and move relationships toward concrete outcomes.
Disciplines
Partnerships / referrals / client acquisition / strategic outreach / vendor relationships / deal flow

02 / Operating Principle

“Visibility is not luck. It's the result of building the right systems in the right places at the right time.”

That line is the practice's own operating note, and the pattern holds outside marketing, too. Every independent build in the record below runs client-side by default — no server required, no account, no data leaving the device unless someone chooses otherwise. That isn't a privacy feature added afterward; it's the default assumption going in.

Twelve fields of practice, one working assumption underneath all of them: build the system so it doesn't depend on someone else's.

03 / Selected Evidence

Independent record

No client names disclosed here. What follows is public, independent, and shipped — the account with the fewest strings attached.

File 01 Chrome Extension Status — Beta

Focus Shield

Enforces a 30-minute daily budget on passive feed browsing. Feeds are suppressed at the CSS level before JavaScript executes; bookmarks and creation tools stay accessible without limit. An optional commitment lock, keyed to a passphrase held by someone else, makes the limit difficult to defeat by design.

Stack — JavaScript · Chrome MV3 · Service Worker · MutationObserver API · IndexedDB · Webhooks

File 02 Web App Status — Beta

Psychometric Battery

A 142-item assessment integrating four validated measurement frameworks — HEXACO personality, forced-choice ranking, Schwartz values, attachment style — into a single session. Scoring runs entirely in the browser; nothing is transmitted.

Stack — JavaScript · HTML/CSS · client-side only · zero dependencies

File 03 Chrome Extension Status — Beta

Bookmark Mirror

Generates a psychological profile from Twitter/X bookmarks — Big Five inference, Schwartz values, LIWC-inspired linguistic analysis, topic velocity — entirely offline. No API key, no server, no data transmitted.

Stack — JavaScript · Chrome MV3 · IndexedDB · Content Scripts · Service Worker

File 04 Instagram Status — Live

Curated Feed

Every post on @seldomsought resequenced by hue instead of time — manually, post by post, no algorithm. The chronological grid becomes a continuous color gradient.

Stack — Manual curation · color theory

File 05 Web App Status — Beta

The Self Cartography Project

An evidence-informed self-assessment that triangulates values, personality, and career fit across eleven measurement formats — not just Likert ratings — with a background validity engine that flags straightlining, contradiction, and self-report-vs-behavior gaps. Every score ships with a confidence level, never an invented percentile.

Stack — React · TypeScript · Vite · client-side only
